How to use the pace calculator
Pace is time per unit distance — minutes per kilometer or minutes per mile. Given any two of distance, time, and pace, the third is fixed. This tool solves for whichever one you leave blank.
- Pick your distance unit (km or mi). The pace input automatically switches to match (min/km or min/mi).
- Fill in any two of the three fields: distance, time (as HH:MM:SS), and pace (MM:SS). Leave one blank.
- The missing field fills in. If you set distance and pace, your finish time appears. If you set time and distance, your pace appears. If you set time and pace, your distance appears.
- Tap a race preset to jump to a common event. Set your target pace and you will see the finish time, or set your target time and see what pace you need.
Common paces for reference
- A sub-4-hour marathon needs about 5:41/km (9:09/mi).
- A sub-2-hour half marathon needs about 5:41/km (9:09/mi) as well — same pace, half the distance.
- A sub-25-minute 5K needs about 5:00/km (8:03/mi).
- Elite marathon pace is under 3:00/km — Eliud Kipchoge ran the first sub-2 marathon at 2:50/km average.
